An Awesome morning with our Local Firemen

Here we are, our little Eagle Home schooling group (less two families)

in front of Station 1--1 of the 3 Fire Departments here in Eagle. We were all so excited for our morning with the firemen and especially to give them all our little gifts.

Firefighters Zach Wagner and Ben Mors were our guides and they were SO FUN. The kids loved them! They review a few of the Fire Do's and Don'ts with us. They really thought the kids were very smart, not knowing that we had reviewed all this info last night.

We then went into the HUGE garage where all the trucks were housed. Firefighter Ben showed us all the trucks and what they are used for. There were over 10 trucks to see.

.He showed us some of the equipment they use. This is the axe/hoe they use to chop down doors or roofs, or dig trenches in the ground.

This are the "jaws of death" used to cut through car doors. They weigh 85 pounds! Firemen have to be strong enough to handle all the equipment and tall enough to reach them.

This is a picture of their new truck. (They are very proud to have it!) The ladder on this truck is 85 feet high and has two remote controlled water spouts at the top. It was big and very cool!

Firefighter Ben then demonstrated the fireman outfit. They explained that they may look scary, but really, inside the big outfit is just a nice fireman! I was glad to have the kids see them dressed up so they knew not to be afraid of them.

Firefighter Ben bragged that he could get dressed in his gear in under one minute. The kids dared him to do it...So here is the video. He made it in 33 seconds!

Then we went inside to see where they live while on duty. They are usually on duty for 3-4 days at a time. This is their living room. I walked in and thought how it would make a perfect mother's room in a church building...all those nice cushy rocking chairs!

The firemen work out for atleast 1 1/2 hours each day in this workout room. Dreamy.

They each have their own bedroom. (Bedding was being washed today).

We went back to the conference room where the firemen handed out little fireman paraphenelia to all the kids.

Firefighter Zach took me and Justin to see the pictures of the 3 firemen who helped us on Christmas morning, and told us where they were stationed. He was so kind to do this.

It was such a fun field trip! The firefighters were just Awesome (as I knew they would be... In my mind firefighter=totally awesome!). They loved their treats and the kids all really loved the experience. It was a perfect way to end our service activity...or rather begin it!...

We can't wait to come back! For our next Fireman appreciation activity, I want to make Dinner and take it in. What a fun surprise that would be for them!
